Celeste Ivory is a graduate student in FSU’s Master of Fine Arts program. This summer, she has been working in the REBOOT lab, as an extension of her studio. Celeste’s work is very focused on materials and process. She often contrasts natural materials (which have included wool, Spanish moss, and fivers encrusted with boric acid crystals) with their synthetic analogues. The latter category of materials makes the lab’s focus on plastic waste a natural fit for Celeste’s experimental studio practice. During the past few weeks, she has been creating a collection of small 2D sculptures utilizing our low-tech-high-tech process of melting discarded grocery bags with a panini press modified to include digital programmable temperature control.
